Friday Finally

Sitting watching Andy Murray struggle in the semi-final - not looking good but hopefully he can get through it - needs to change his game plan.
At long last a cooler day in Sydney and perfect condition for the Hurts Friday session. 14kms around the harbour and there was a decent turn out today  - Tom, Ray, James among the regulars. Not been feeling 100% the last couple of days and woke with a sore right hip this morning so very happy I managed my longest run since UK trip in November. Run stats below and very happy with 4.32 average pace on just over 13kms. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/65437881
Jim doesn't appear too happy with my blog post from yesterday, which is a shame. Probably no run this weekend but may get out for a ride on Sunday morning.
Next week sees the start of the 6km corporate cup race - summer series is always the toughest, hoping for a pb this series - hope the Hurts speed sessions have helped

Thursday Humiliation

Managed a very easy 3km run yesterday to celebrate Australia day and spent the morning at the beach with the family - water was great although it was pretty much kid soup at Bronte.

A slightly cooler day today than Monday - only 30C - however 4 x 2km sprint session with Hurts was never going to be easy. Jim came out today fdor his first Hurts appearance and it might be a while before he comes back. Knew he was on a hiding to nothing when he shot off in front of me at the start - I did warn him about 50 meters in that he was going too fast - will he never learn to pace himself! He did manage to finish the first one - only slightly behind me, but dropped out after 400 meters of the second repeat. I did call him late this avo to check he was ok, and he stated "that was the most humiliating 7 1/2 minutes of my life"- I did after check he was still talking about running although I think 7 1/2 minutes might be talking his effort today up a bit. At least he was out there giving it a go - hope to see him for the 14km easy session tomorrow!

Today's run sessions below - still trying to get the hang of the watch hence the two entries

Tuesday - Rabbie Burns Day

Well no running today - must have been fate as I got to the changing rooms and discovered I had no shorts. Forgetting a hat or sunnies can be accommodated, but no shorts is an entirely different proposition. Didn't get up in time for a surf this morning, so upset Willy who said conditions were perfect. Jim bailed on the lunchtime run as well - maybe he suspect I'd be running shortless and would feel a little inadequate.
Most of you will be aware that it is Rabbie Burns day today and so haggis, neeps and tatties are on the menu tonight - English Paul is coming over to sample the Scottish delicacy. Not ideal fare for a 33C day, however we'll struggle through it and no doubt I will need to do a lot of running for the rest of the week.
Australia Day holiday tomorrow, so probably no blog (I know you will all miss my pearls of wisdom), although plan is to take the kids to Bondi early doors and get some beach time.

Monday Swelter

Monday lunch run with Adam and the Hurts group. Could only do half the session so tried to stay near the front. Run stats are at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/64903472. A hot, steamy day in Sydney did not help - temp at 10.30am was 29C and by 12.30 when we started had reached 34.9C. Took a while to cool down - couldn't quite tell when I was out of the shower!
Noice southerly has blown in tonight so not sure whether to go a morning surf, lunch run or both. Session tomorrow is 45 min tempo run - building pace every 10 mins with last 5 mins being 5km race pace. Perhaps a surf and run with Jim is a better option especially as tempis forecast at 33C tomorrow.

Sunday Ride

First time out on the bike in about 4 months but the BRW is nearing, so some serious training required. Out with brother-in-law Dr Hugh - the best dressed biker in the East. He hasn't been on his bike for about 7 months - so we thought about Watson's Bay hill repeats and settled for some nice easy laps of Centennial Park. The Dr tried to push it on the last lap and it was a fair effort for 100m......
The coffee and chat at Crave remind me why I like getting out on (and off) the bike. Undercarriage feeling a little tender at the moment - nothing a few kms in the saddle won't sort out.
First ride using my new Garmin 305 - check out the stats at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/64623524
Looking forward to easy Hurts run session tomorrow.
